Mrs. Ella Mae Riser Gist, wife of the late Rev J.C. Gist. She was the daughter of the late Wil Riser and Mailon Coker Riser.
Ella Mae was educated in Spartanburg County School System, and was a member of Upper Shady Grove Baptist Church in Wellford, SC where she served faithfully for many years. Her Ministries of service included the Deaconess Ministry, Missionary Ministry, Usher Ministry and Sunday School Teacher and the Gospel Choir. Mrs. Gist lived her life dedicated to the Lord and her family, whom she loved dearly.
Mrs. Ella Mae was also preceded in death by two daughters, Doris Lee Gist and Barbara Thompson.
Left to cherish fond memories are six daughters, Virginia Ellis of Lyman, SC, Minister Linda Wilkes (Henry) of Belton, TX, Minister Brenda McDowell (Reverend Booker) of Wellford, SC, Dian Gist, Elizabeth Jones (Minister Carlos) and Elder Joyce Hutchinson (Elder Dell), all of Spartanburg, SC; one son, Joe Gist (Elizabeth) of Boiling Springs, SC; two sisters, Dora Wood of Spartanburg, SC and Annie Harris of Inman, SC; 24 grandchildren, 60 great grands and 14 great great grands and a host of other relatives and friends.
