I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith: henceforth, there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, shall give me at that day: and not to me only, but unto all them also that love His appearing.” ~ II. Timothy 4: 7-8

Charles Anthony “Warhorse” Wallace, Sr., 72, transitioned on Sunday January 2, 2022 at Prisma Hillcrest Hospital.

Charles was born February 5, 1949 in Laurens County, South Carolina to the late Jim Wallace and the late Sallie Mae Atchison Wallace. He attended Sanders High School and was a proud graduate of the Class of 1967. He also matriculated at Greenville Technical College earning an Associate Degree in Mechanical Engineering. He worked in the field of engineering and CAD design for many years as an independent contractor. In his later years, he became a master gardener through the Clemson Extension and he and his wife’s gardens were the talk of the town as he so often overplanted and had more than enough to share with friends and the community.

Civically, he served as a precinct clerk for the Laurens County Board of Elections and was quite the observer of the political climate in America.

He became an avid golfer in the mid-1990’s and even competed for Professional Qualifications.

In June of 1968, he married his high school sweetheart who he is survived by, Joyce Abrams of Gray Court, South Carolina and as well as their two sons, Charles II aka Dooley and Chadwick. He is also survived by his daughters in love, Paryn (Charles II) and Dedra (Chad). He adored his grandchildren, Charles III, Carson, Caedan, Anson, Erin, and Brandon. His special son and neighbor, Kevin Byrd (Tonya) and special granddaughter, Kiana and special great, great nephew, Yannis.

He was preceded in death by his brother, Jim Wallace (Patricia), sisters Lizzie Mae Chappel, Bessie Lee McGowan, and Louisa Irby (Bobby). With loving memories, he leaves three brothers, Curtis Wallace (Betty), Willie James Wallace (Lucille) and Greg Wallace of Commerce, Georgia; Two sisters, Mildred Hunter (Sonny) and Janice Wallace of Commerce, Georgia. Two God-daughters, Keisha Boyce Williams and Aprial Legette (Ronald). He leaves a host of nephews, nieces, who affectionately called him, “Charlie Wallace”, cousins and dear friends to include Joey Leggett.

A Casual Memorial Service will be held on Friday, January 7, 2022 at 12 noon at Bethlehem Baptist Church, Simpsonville, SC.
