George D. Holmes

Mr. George D. Holmes, 95, went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, August 9, 2016.

George was born in Groton, CT to the late Sydney Parker Holmes and Charlotte Elizabeth Sullivan Holmes.

During World War II, he served in the United States Army for two years. After retiring from Thames Valley Steel in New London, CT, he enjoyed his motorcycle, sailing and gardening. In 2006, he moved to Moore, SC, where he attended Westview Christian Church. All who knew him, appreciated most his sense of humor.

He is survived by his wife of fifty years, Carol Hoffstadt Holmes; his son, George D. Holmes Jr. of Gulfport, MS.; four daughters, Dolores Holmes of Somerville, NJ, Nancy Schweitzer of Coventry, CT, Donna Holmes and Marne Larson, both of Groton, CT; six grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; three great-greatgrandchildren.

He was preceded in death by brothers, William and Sydney Holmes and sister Dorothy Orkney.
