Mr. Leon Dabney Sr., nickname Honeyman, was born to the late Mr. John Dabney and the Late Miss Maggie Jackson in Montgomery, Alabama on August 24, 1924.
Mr. Dabney was the oldest of three children. He was predeceased by his son, Mr. Leon Dabney Jr; one grandson, Mr. Antonio Graham and a brother, Mr. Ralph Dabney.
Leon was baptized at an early age at Jerico AME Church. He was raised by his uncle and aunt, Rev. Charles and Lula Davis, who had four sons, Charlie, William, Clifton and James Dabney. Leon considered them his brothers.
Leon joined The United State Navy on November 12,1943 and was honorably discharged on January 25, 1946. He return to Alabama and married the late Mrs. Lucille Davis Dabney. He worked with his uncle, painting, plastering, etc. He then relocated to Detroit, MI and started working for the Board of Education and retired from the City of Detroit in Michigan on July 1, 1992. He married his loving wife, Ann (Shirley Dabney). Leon was a devoted deacon of the Wayside Baptist Church for thirty years, then a deacon of the Springfield Baptist Church in Detroit. After relocating to South Carolina, Leon joined the Cedar Grove Baptist Church in Enoree, SC and was a devoted deacon until his health declined but his faithfulness kept him grounded in Jesus.
Leon leaves to cherish fond and loving memories, his wife, Mrs. Shirley Dabney; his sister, Ethelyne Dabney of Montgomery, AL; Daughter-in-law, Mrs. Martha Dabney of Detroit, MI; two grandchildren, Wakeshia and Wakeem; seven great-grandchildren, Keasia, Leon, Antwon, Kejuan, Aston, Taykeha and Antonio, all of Detroit, MI; a sister-in-law, Ms. Cassandra Draper, of Detroit, MI, two brother-in=laws, Mr. Dwight Pearson, and Mr. Beckwith Pearson of Detroit, MI; a special uncle, Mr. Reuben Jackson of Detroit, MI; two Godsons, Mr. Timothy Young of Detroit, MI and Mr. Derrick L. Dabney of Anderson, IN; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
