Mrs. Kay Frances Gilliam was born on August 31, 1951 to the late Mr. Jim Mays and Mrs. Lillie Mae Mays.

Kay attended Spartanburg County public schools and was a graduate of the Woodruff High School Class of 1969.

She was a member of the Trinity A.M.E. Zion Church in Woodruff, South Carolina where she served as a member of the deaconess board, class leader, Sunday school teacher, kitchen committee chair, church clerk, advisor of children’s choir, and member of the gospel choir. She was also the church secretary, a member of the Stewardess board, and the quarterly conference secretary.

Mrs. Gilliam was the Spartanburg District Representative for WHOMS NCNW. Most of all, she was a beacon of light in her home, her church, and her community; a warm, sweet, and gentle woman of God.

On Monday, June 17, 2019, Mrs. Kay Gilliam entered Eternal Rest at the Spartanburg Regional Medical Center in Spartanburg, South Carolina. She will be missed for her smile, her giving nature, her hard work, her faithful service, and her love for her family.

She leaves to cherish fond and loving memories, her husband, John E. Gilliam of the home; two daughters, Ptia G. McKelvin of Woodruff, SC and Patasia (Michael) Gilliam of Spartanburg, SC; one son, Petre S. (Michelle) Gilliam of White Plains, MD; nine grandchildren, Brandon Gilliam, Michael E. Johnson, Omarion McKelvin, Carterian Gilliam, Mysheenel Johnson, Myke Johnson, Mykai Johnson, Niya Gilliam, and Evan Gilliam; one sister, Mary Bland of Haledon, NJ; one brother, J.W. (Florida) Mays of Woodruff, SC; five sisters-in law; 4 brothers-in-law; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
