Grace B. Bennett McBeth, daughter of the late Jim Bennett and Birdie Webb Bennett, and the widow of Buddy Lewis McBeth.
She was born on August 2, 1921, in the county of Greenville, South Carolina. She departed this life, after a brief illness, on Tuesday, December 4, 2018, at the J. F. Hawkins Nursing Home in Newberry, South Carolina, where she had been a resident for a few years.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death, by her sisters and their spouses, Lizzie Mae Bennett Browning (Jack Sr.); Hattie Bennett Simuel (William); Birdie Bennett Ferguson (Mack Sr.) and her brother, James W. Bennett. She was the mother of one son, Bennie Bennett, who also preceded her in death. She was preceded in death by grandson, Bennie Bennett and a step grandson, Otis Bennett.
She confessed Christ Jesus as her Savior at an early age, at New Prospect Baptist Church in Enoree, SC. She later united with Majority Baptist Church in Spartanburg, SC where she served briefly as an usher and choir member. She had a very limited formal education but she was hard working and loved to read the newspaper and always watched the news. She worked, as a very young girl and into adulthood, doing domestic work; but her labor of love and true calling was as a nurses’ aid at Geneva’s Rest Home in Spartanburg, SC where she retired from, after working for more than twenty-five years. She was dedicated to her work and loved the clients in that facility, whom she often referred to as her “babies”. She was very direct and often outspoken. Everyone who knew her would say that she spoke what was in her mind; and often without a filter, but not in a mean-spirited way, even if sometimes she hurt your feelings.
She leaves to mourn her passing, and cherish her memories, two grandsons, David Bennett and Bennie Lewis Green, nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews, and a host of friends and acquaintances.
