Deacon Ernest Young Sr., husband of Mary Drummond Young, was born June 2, 1934 in Fairfield County. He was the son of the late Plumer Young and Minnie Crosby Young. He was a deacon and member of Lower Shady Grove Baptist Church in Woodruff, SC and former member of Unity Freedom Baptist Church in Newark, NJ. He retired from Newark Board of Education in Newark, NJ and was a U.S. Army Veteran.

Deacon Young was preceded in death by two sons, Ernest Young Jr. and Eugene Hill; and six brothers and one sister.

Left to cherish fond memories are his wife, Mary Young, of the home; one daughter, Carolyn Young of Newark, NJ; one stepson, Ronnie (Kim) Drummond of Woodruff, SC; three sisters, Minnie (Jessie) Byrd, of Salisbury, NC, Doris Jackson of Columbia, SC, and Ruby Phillips of Los Angeles, CA; three brothers, Doby Young of Blair, SC, Joe Young of Concord, NC and Fate Young of Columbia, SC; seven grandchildren, Eugene Simmons, Crystal Simmons, Fuquan Simmons, Raqueel Goodman, Qu’ran Goodman, Shaki Goodman, Bria Young; and a host of great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
