Well Done, Thou Good & Faithful Servant
Ms. Frances Browning, affectionately known as “Dot”, was born into a loving family in Woodruff, South Carolina, which included Richard her grandfather, Carrie, her grandmother, and Nellie, her mother. She was the first of seven siblings born into the Browning family. She grew up in Woodruff, SC, where she accepted Christ at an early age. Frances attended New Bethel School and later moved to Spartanburg, SC, where she attended Carver High School. It was then she met the love of her life, Andrew Cade. After a short courtship they were united in holy matrimony on April 26, 1943. Andrew preceded her in death on April 27, 1985. They were a loving and joyful couple who were blessed to share 42 years together.
From this union there were two children; Alsie M. Jones, living in San Diego, CA and Emmanuel & wife, Elnora Browning, living in New Jersey. They journeyed from Spartanburg, SC and later established residence in Washington, D.C. Frances united with Unity Baptist Church where she was a faithful member. She loved working on the Usher Board as God’s door keeper until her health declined.
Frances was a very active member of Gethsemane Chapel #3, Order of the Eastern Star, Washington D.C. One of Frances most cherished accomplishments was becoming a Worthy Matron. She worked in her Chapter for many years starting from the beginning at the Sentinel. Frances continued to work hard until she reached the East, the office of the highest emblem of authority as Worthy Matron. She had a deep love for the Order.
Frances was employed most of her adult life with Prince George’s General Hospital & Medical Center in Cleverly, MD as a Nurse’s Aide until retirement on May 1, 1985 to take care of her husband, who had become an invalid.
On Sunday, January 19, 2020, Frances was called home to her eternal resting place. She has gone home to join her husband, parents and siblings.
She leaves to cherish her memories; two children, Emanuel (Lenora) Browning of New Jersey, Alsie M. Jones of San Diego, CA; two brothers, Samuel Rice of Washington, D.C., Eulis (Janie Bell) Rice of Woodruff, SC; two sisters, Connie (Belton) Lane of Reidville, SC and Lisa Rice of Spartanburg, SC; four grandchildren, Sharon (Forest) Henderson of Georgia, Vanessa Richardson, Anthony L. Jones, Guendalena (William) Cornute, all of San Diego, CA; four great-grand-children, Danita Dupree of Riverside, CA, Brionnah Cornute of San Diego, CA, Tonisha L. Jones, Mercedes Jones, both of Dallas, TX; one great-great grandson, Josiah Dupree of Riverside, CA; a favorite nephew overseer, Stewart Lee Martin of Washington, D.C.; two sisters-in-law, Dorothy C. Floyd and Ruth C. Jefferies of Spartanburg, SC; one brother-in-law Arthur (Bertha) Cade and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Mr. Thomas (Stepfather) and Nellie Rice; one sister, Ella Mae Martin; four brothers, L.V. Rice, Joe Louis Rice, Randolph Rice and Melvin Rice.
