Mrs. Midrie Smith Dawkins, age 91, of Enoree, SC, passed Sunday July 24, 2016 at Heartland Healthcare in Union, SC. Mrs. Dawkins was born June 3, 1925 in Laurens County, SC.

She is the daughter of the late Cleophus and Alma Gray Smith and the widow of Richard Harding Dawkins. She was also preceded in death by her brothers and their wives, Cleophus (Rosa) Smith, Jr., and Bennie (Bertha) Smith.

She grew up as a member of Mount Zion Missionary Baptist Church of Laurens, SC. She later became a member of Beaverdam Baptist Church. At Beaverdam, she sang on the senior choir, she was a member of the Missionary Auxiliary, and she was also a devoted Sunday school participant before her health declined. She retired from Woodruff Elementary in the South Carolina public School system. She was well-liked by family, friends, and others who crossed her path.

Her survivors include three daughters, Audrey Dawkins-Oliver of Missouri City, TX, Sharon Dawkins of Simpsonville, SC, and Karon Dawkins of Durham, NC; three sons, Harold (Gail) Dawkins, Bobby (Phyllis) Dawkins all of Charlotte, NC, Richard E. Dawkins of Upper Marlboro, MD; grandchildren, Brian Greene, Sabrina Dawkins, Malia Dawkins, Heather Dawkins, Demi Dawkins, O’Neal Oliver, Grayson Dawkins, Blake Dawkins; one great – grandchild, Kiona Smith of Woodruff, SC; two brothers, Nathaniel (Anna) Smith of High Point, NC, Roy Smith of Enoree, SC; special niece, Anna Beagle of Enoree, SC; special cousins Gardenia (John L.) Byrd of Enoree, SC; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
